The whole old town in ninety minutes: from the Reformation to the first German democracy. The walk connects the key places of Weimar's city centre. From the market square with Cranach House and Hotel Elephant, it goes via Platz der Demokratie with the Anna Amalia Library to the City Palace and the Herder Church with its Cranach altarpiece, on to Theaterplatz with the National Theatre, where the National Assembly met in 1919, and to Schiller's and Goethe's homes. The tour ends at Goethe's ginkgo tree in the Park on the Ilm, setting of one of the most beautiful love poems of Weimar Classicism.
I don't give a dry overview, but tell stories: why Schiller could only write with rotten apples in his desk, why the palace burned down twice, and why four words in the National Theatre caused laughter and made history.
