100 Years of Sports Shoes Exhibition
On 1st July 1924, Adolf Dassler and Rudolf Dassler officially registered their joint "Gebrüder Dassler Shoe Factory" in the commercial register. This is the birth of the sports shoe industry in Herzogenaurach. The town museum has made a special exhibition about the history of the Dassler family in Herzogenaurach. The Dassler brothers, Adolf and Rudolf, were enthusiastic supporters of the sports movement and practised many sports at a high level of performance. They designed and produced sports shoes for every sport: boxing, ice hockey, football, athletics, skiing etc.
The Dassler brothers equipped top athletes with sports shoes and made their big breakthrough at the Olympic Games in 1936, when Jesse Owens won four gold medals wearing Dassler shoes. However, Lina Radke was the first woman to win a gold medal at the Olympic Games in Amsterdam in 1928 – wearing Dassler shoes, of course!
This exhibition shows the time until the Dassler brothers split in 1948 to found two separate companies – adidas and PUMA.
A guided tour of the exhibition lasts about 1 hour and is rounded off with a short walk through the town to the Dasslers' ancestral home.
The tour costs 50€ plus entrance fee to the museum (2€ per person or 25€ per group)
